Seventy-five years ago electric co-op pioneers in southeastern Illinois had but one meager goal– to bring lights to the farms of their area. Little did they realize that their efforts would one day lead to the development of SouthEastern Illinois Electric Cooperative, the largest electric cooperative in Illinois. The initial line design and construction would take nearly a year, with the first lines energized on Jan. 24, 1940. The move energized the co-op's first 155 miles of distribution lines, bringing service to 300 farms and homes in Saline County. Today your Cooperative serves 23,723 members with 3,546 miles of distribution line.
Your Cooperative is very proud to be a locally owned, locally governed, locally operated, not-for-profit organization serving the rural areas of SouthEastern Illinois and truly making a difference in our very own communities for the past 75 years. Please join us in celebrating 75 years of providing reliable, affordable service and accept this invitation to attend the Annual Meeting of SouthEastern Illinois Electric Cooperative and learn more about the business that you own.
See you next month and as always, "We'll keep the lights on for you."
